Ahead of L.A.F opening next week we asked its director Sarah Monk what where the Top7 things that excited her most about the 29th edition.
Founded in 1989 at the Business Design Centre in Islington, the London Art Fair has evolved into a premier platform for Modern and Contemporary Art. From its humble beginnings with 36 UK galleries, the fair now hosts over 100 galleries and attracts 25,000 visitors annually. Showcasing both Modern British Art and international contemporary perspectives it facilitates art appreciation and acquisition at all levels. Notable sales include works by renowned artists such as Andy Warhol and David Hockney.
The fair nurtures emerging talent and has recognized artists like Chris Ofili and Jenny Saville with ‘rising star’ awards. With a diverse lineup ranging from emerging talents to established favorites, London Art Fair offers a dynamic experience. In addition to curated talks and panel discussions, the fair features critically acclaimed spaces like Encounters, Photo50, and Platform, offering insights into contemporary art trends.
London Art Fair collaborates with regional museums to showcase unique exhibitions, highlighting the heritage and significance of collections. In 2022, The Women’s Art Collection celebrated women’s creativity, featuring works by artists like Maggi Hambling and Eileen Cooper.
Excitingly, for 2024, London Art Fair partners with Charleston, the modernist home of the Bloomsbury group painters, to mark its 50th anniversary.

If you are anything like me you may find the possibility of having to visit an art fair a slightly jarring prospect. These brightly lit trade fairs, where gallerists fawn over collectors in hope of a whiff of their filthy lucre, have more in common with a Rolls Royce dealership than they have with the experience of viewing art in a gallery
