Politics & Nature: unnatural and natural states of the world at 56th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia

Arriving in Venice for the vernissage days whilst elections were in full swing, I was surprised to be confronted by a politically charged Biennale. Colonialism, Capitalism, Socialism, contemporary slavery and migration were some of the themes running through the 56th Edition of La Biennale di Venezia, which opened not long after a period of several weeks during which more than 1,800 migrants – many of them African – drowned whilst attempting to flee across the Mediterranean to Europe..

REVIEW: Zabludowicz Collection – 20 years

There was a party atmosphere last night at the Zabludowicz Collection, celebrating their 20 years. The well healed mixed happily with young artists who were mostly milling around the bar and the food van. COMING SOON: Rack ‘em up: a YBA Editions Exhibition: Hirst, Lucas, Turk, Coventry, Chapman, Landy, Wearing and More!

Rack ‘em up: British Contemporary Editions, 1990 – 2000 focusses on editions produced by the so-called YBA generation of artists. The survey, the first of its kind ever staged, brings together works by all of the leading figures of the period, including Keith Coventry, Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas and Gavin Turk, and seeks to capture the irreverent and exuberant flavour of the era.

Art Book : Nature Morte by Michael Petry

Nature Morte : Contemporary artists reinvigorate the Still-Life tradition is a daring, convincing and completely on-point collection of modern still-life that features both canonical and lesser-known artists alongside several that have recently exhibited in London; Sarah Lucas, Clare Tworney and Robert Gober.

Review: Sarah Lucas: SITUATION

Racy imagery, tongue-in-cheek euphemisms, feminist interpretations and breath-taking sexualistion of everyday objects in Lucas’ work, is all brought together in a stunning retrospective of her entire collection, enabling “Situation” to bring something to the table for every visitor.
