Harmony Korine (b. 1973, Bolinas, California, USA) is an American filmmaker, writer and artist known for experimental films and multimedia work that explore youth culture, subcultures and the surreal edges of American life. Harmony Korine first gained attention as the writer of Kids (1995) before establishing himself as a director with films including Gummo, Julien Donkey-Boy and Spring Breakers.
Korine’s work blends realism, absurdity and visual experimentation, often using fragmented narratives, non-professional actors and unconventional cinematography. Across film, painting and installation, Harmony Korine explores themes of identity, spectacle, violence and cultural mythology, creating work that feels both confrontational and darkly humorous. His visual language frequently draws on pop culture, advertising and digital aesthetics.
Harmony Korine has exhibited internationally and continues to work across cinema and contemporary art. His practice positions him at the intersection of film, visual art and cultural critique, influencing both independent cinema and contemporary image-making.
