DON’T MISS! Group show: ‘Collected Goods’ today, Saturday April 12th in Long Island

Collected Goods is the first of a series of pop-up shows organized by artists Alessandro Teoldi and Sylvia Hardy in alternative spaces. Today, Saturday the April 12th, launches the first of four studio pop ups where an eclectic arrangement of works by emerging artists such as Meg Franklin, Sylvia Hardy, Alessandro Teoldi, Charlie Rubin, Mark Starling and many others will be cleverly curated in the Sylvia Hardy Studio Space from 3pm until 6:30 in Long Island

NYC OPENING: John Gordon Gauld and ‘Interstellar Overdrive’ @ Salomon Contemporary Thursday April 3rd

In July 1956, amidst a dense fog off the northeast coast of the United States, the SS Andrea Doria was struck by the MS Stockholm and sunk into the depths of the Atlantic. In John Gordon Gauld’s new zodiac series, inspired from recovered remnants of the ship’s famed Zodiac Suite, he reexamines the historical still life and expands his focus on allegorical history—of the natural, philosophical, and spiritual.

NYC ART NEWS: Ryan Lee gallery in new location beginning April 15th

Ryan Lee is expanding and relocating to it’s new home at 515 West 26th Street on the third floor. Seizing the opportunity to nearly double the exhibition space and situate the gallery eye-level to the Highline, RYAN LEE will build upon its first year of success by increasing the artist roster, adding more project shows, launching a video program this summer, and collaborating with independent curators. First up is Donald Sultan’s, ‘Artiface’.

NYC ART OPENING: ‘Homeland’ @ William Holman Gallery Wednesday March 26th

Featuring the works of the artists Tom Judd and Rebecca Bird, Homeland challenges the traditional understanding of landscape as a medium that imposes rationality and subjectivity on a vision of nature. From two distinct perspectives, Homeland twists the basic visual language of the landscape. Incorporating mystical imagery and scenes from memory, the works are filled with historical tension and traces of anxiety.

Friday nights in NYC: Opening tonight, March 21st Reed Anderson @ Pierogi in NYC

This will be Anderson’s fourth show at Pierogi and will feature the synthesis of two series; his exuberant cut paintings on paper and his on-going “Papa Object” project. These works range from medium to large scale. “We are choked by objects, paralyzed by them. In some cases we don’t even know who owns whom. …It takes an artist to get around an object.” – Emily Hall
