Roni Horn Returns to London with Seizure of Hope at Hauser & Wirth

Roni Horn returns to London with Seizure of Hope, a new exhibition exploring repetition, language and the emotional weight of hope.
Roni Horn (b. 1955, New York, USA) creates work that moves between sculpture, photography, drawing and text, guided by an enduring fascination with identity, place and perception. Her practice is marked by repetition and variation—forms and images that return, shift and reconfigure, inviting viewers to notice difference within sameness. Iceland, with its mutable weather and elemental landscapes, has been a long-standing touchstone, shaping her sensitivity to flux and transformation.
Horn’s sculptures, often made in glass, metal or stone, possess a quiet, physical gravity. They appear minimal yet emotionally resonant, objects that seem to absorb light, atmosphere and the viewer’s presence. Her photographic works—especially her ongoing portraits and studies of natural phenomena—extend this inquiry, treating the image as a site of subtle change rather than fixed truth.
Across media, Horn’s work resists singular meaning. Instead, it unfolds through attention, duration and the act of looking itself. Precise, restrained and deeply contemplative, her practice invites viewers into a space where identity and environment are understood not as stable facts, but as fluid, evolving experiences.
