‘Always on My Mind Part 2’ is a contemplative art exhibition curated by Harry Pye, aiming to raise funds for The National Brain Appeal.
Born in 1973 in London, Harry Pye’s artistic journey has been a remarkable one, spanning across various mediums and collaborations. At the tender age of 11, he delved into the world of creativity by crafting super 8 films and crafting his own magazines. The spark of creativity ignited early, and he honed his drawing skills by studying postcards from the Tate Gallery bookshop during his primary school years.
Educational pursuits led him to Crown Woods School, where he completed his GCSEs and A’ Levels before embarking on a foundational art course at Camberwell School of Art. Winchester School of Art became his academic home from 1992 to 1995, and during this time, he gained valuable experience with sculptor Bruce McLean as part of an artist’s placement in the second year.
Returning to London in 1995, Pye established “Harry Pye’s Frank Magazine,” a publication that endured for five productive years. It wasn’t until he reached 30 years of age that he ventured into painting, influenced by exhibitions like Phillip Guston’s at the Royal Academy and Mathias Kauage’s at the Horniman in 2004.
Collaboration has been a cornerstone of Pye’s career, often partnering with friends like Rowland Smith. The artist Jasper Joffe played a pivotal role by encouraging Pye to exhibit his artwork, ultimately introducing him to Gretta Sarfaty Marchant of Sartorial Contemporary Art.
His association with Sartorial bore fruitful results, with two successful solo exhibitions, “Me, Me, Me” in February 2007 and “Getting Better” in March 2009. Harry’s artistic endeavors have traversed the globe, gracing renowned galleries like the Thomas Cohn Gallery in Brazil, the Tom Christoffersen in Denmark, and the Hell Gallery in Australia.
His artistic repertoire extends beyond traditional spaces, often intertwining with film through collaboration with filmmaker Gordon Beswick. Notably, their works have graced the esteemed halls of Tate Britain and Tate Modern.
Not confined to a single medium, Pye’s written contributions have graced prominent magazines such as Turps Banana, Epifiano, and The Face. He also holds the title of editor for The Rebel.
As an artist and curator, Harry Pye’s creative odyssey continues to captivate, leaving an indelible mark on the artistic landscape worldwide.
