Damien Hirst, born on 7 June 1965, is a prominent English artist, entrepreneur, and art collector. He became known as a Young British Artist (YBA) during the 1990s.
Since the late 1980s, Hirst has created installations, sculptures, paintings, and drawings exploring art, beauty, religion, science, life, and death. His works challenge contemporary belief systems, reflecting human uncertainty.
While at Goldsmiths College, Hirst curated “Freeze” in 1988, a debut exhibition for the YBAs, characterized by entrepreneurship and opposition.
His famous Spot paintings, started in 1986, feature multicolored spots on white backgrounds, showcasing his artistic brilliance. Hirst creates over a thousand Spot paintings, each painted by hand using glossy house paint.
In 2012, Gagosian exhibited over 300 Spot paintings across all its locations, solidifying Hirst’s position as a significant contemporary artist.

His contributions to contemporary art have left an enduring impact, making him a celebrated figure worldwide.
Damien Hirst’s journey as an artist, entrepreneur, and cultural provocateur highlights his creative ingenuity and exploration of the human condition.
