MACAM in Lisbon reimagines the museum experience by combining a contemporary art museum with a luxury hotel
Olafur Eliasson (b. 1967, Copenhagen, Denmark) creates artworks that use light, water, colour, and movement to recalibrate how we perceive the world. Moving fluidly between sculpture, installation, and architecture, he builds environments that heighten awareness—fog-filled chambers, shifting suns, rivers of refracted light. Rooted in ecology and social engagement, Eliasson’s practice invites viewers to experience themselves as part of a larger, shared system. His works are at once sensorial and civic, transforming perception into a catalyst for connection and change.
