Air, baubles, fish hooks, domesticity and dips.
Dale Lewis creates large-scale paintings populated by chaotic cityscapes, fractured interiors and sharply observed social encounters. Working with an expressive visual language that merges dark humour with psychological intensity, Lewis builds densely layered compositions that capture the tensions, excesses and absurdities of contemporary urban life. His paintings often feel cinematic and overwhelming, packed with details that unfold slowly through repeated viewing.
Drawing influence from nightlife, social realism and caricature, Lewis combines energetic mark-making with intricate narrative structures, creating works that move between satire and empathy. Crowded scenes of bars, streets and domestic spaces become stages for examining class, power, desire and alienation, revealing the strange theatricality embedded within everyday behaviour. Beneath the visual chaos, his work carries a sharp observational quality that reflects both the instability and vitality of modern life.
