Susan Philipsz (b. 1965, Glasgow, UK) uses sound as a sculptural force, shaping spaces through the human voice and its echoes. Often singing unaccompanied, she reinterprets folk songs, laments, and historical melodies, letting their resonances drift through bridges, stations, galleries, and public squares. Her works linger between presence and absence—intimate recordings that transform architecture into an emotional chamber. Quiet yet deeply affecting, Philipsz’s practice turns listening into an act of memory, vulnerability, and shared experience.
