Charlotte Colbert (born 1987) is a celebrated British film director and multi-media artist, hailed by the Evening Standard as “a natural born magician.” Her diverse practice spans artistic installations incorporating sculpture, photography, and performance, as well as narrative feature films. Colbert’s directorial debut received high praise from the New York Times and won the prestigious Golden Leopard for Best First Picture.
Colbert’s work delves into philosophical themes, exploring identity, dreams, the unconscious, and the stories we tell ourselves. Her use of surreal and fantastical elements invites viewers to reexamine reality and imagination. As the Design Museum notes, “Colbert conjures fantastical worlds by blending the boundaries between reality and imagination.”
