The exhibitions bring together the practices of three contemporary artists alongside historic works by Alberto Giacometti
Alberto Giacometti (10 October 1901 – 11 January 1966) was a renowned Swiss sculptor, painter, draftsman, and printmaker. Starting in 1922, Giacometti lived and worked primarily in Paris, though he frequently returned to his hometown, Borgonovo, to visit family and continue his artistic pursuits.
Giacometti is celebrated as one of the 20th century’s most significant sculptors, heavily influenced by Cubism and Surrealism. His work delved into philosophical explorations of the human condition, existentialism, and phenomenology. In 1935, he shifted away from Surrealism to focus on figurative compositions, reflecting his deepening artistic analysis. Giacometti contributed writings to periodicals and exhibition catalogues, recording his thoughts in notebooks and diaries. His self-critical nature and self-doubt, though challenging, drove his creative process throughout his life.
