World-renowned hyper-pop artist Philip Colbert has opened his first solo exhibition in Tokyo at Galerie Nichido and it has been an amazing success.
Philip Colbert is a renowned British artist based in London, known for his vibrant pop art. Educated at Strathallan School and the University of St Andrews, Colbert earned an MA in philosophy. In September 2015, he designed a clothing range for The World Goes Pop exhibition at Tate Modern.
Colbert’s first major painting exhibition took place at the Saatchi Gallery, showcasing his large-scale pop narrative paintings featuring his iconic Lobster alter ego. “We live in a world of ultra pop saturation, where mass intake of Instagram and social media imagery merges with artistic memory,” says Colbert.
In March 2022, Colbert launched “The Lobstars,” a community art project featuring 7,777 lobster portraits. Each portrait doubles as a citizenship card within his digital metaverse, Lobsteropolis, fostering an online community for Lobstar holders.
