The ArtStack is an interesting platform. I like the fact that artists, art lovers, and art world professionals mingle shoulder to shoulder: There is no hierarchy there, and so it’s fascinating to see what art catches people’s eye. However, with all social median platforms, I always wonder how much they are really connected to what exists beyond their walls, digitally and in the real world. The collaboration between The ArtStack and Christie’s on the First Open/LDN competition makes this link; the digital realm of ArtStack crosses into the very physical realm of works on the wall at Christie’s.
8 New crowd-sourced artworks to be auctioned at FIRST OPEN/LDN at Christie’s

rom 20th January – 2nd February artists were given the opportunity to submit their work via theArtStack.com for an online competition and the public were invited to vote for their favourite artworks by ‘stacking’. Almost 3,000 artists from over 100 countries submitted more than 11,000 art works on this innovative social media platform.

Christie’s and ArtStack have announced a new and unique initiative this season: the first crowd-sourced auction initiative. The aim is to give emerging artists chosen by the public the opportunity to be included in an auction, using new technologies and influenced by the current trend for crowd sourcing.
