FAILE (pronounced “fail”) is a renowned Brooklyn-based artistic duo, consisting of Patrick McNeil (born 1975) and Patrick Miller (born 1976). Since its formation in 1999, FAILE has captivated the art world with its extensive multimedia practice, distinguished by a fragmented style that explores duality through appropriation and collage.
FAILE’s central focus on painting and printmaking has expanded over the past decade to include a diverse array of materials and techniques. Their signature mass culture-driven iconography can be found on wooden boxes, window pallets, traditional canvases, prints, sculptures, stencils, installations, and even prayer wheels. This eclectic approach is constructed from found visual imagery, seamlessly blurring the lines between “high” and “low” culture.
Recent FAILE exhibitions have emphasized audience participation, critiqued consumerism, and incorporated elements of religious media, architecture, and site-specific archival research. The duo’s innovative work continues to push boundaries and engage viewers, making FAILE a significant force in contemporary art.
