This important body of work, loaned from a prestigious private collection, brings together pieces from two of the most significant periods of Schiele’s life
Egon Schiele (12 June 1890 – 31 October 1918) was an Austrian Expressionist painter renowned for the intensity and raw sexuality of his work. He is particularly celebrated for his numerous self-portraits, including nude studies, which reveal a bold and unflinching exploration of the human form. Schiele’s distinctive style, characterised by twisted body shapes and expressive lines, established him as a pioneering figure in the early Expressionist movement. Gustav Klimt, the renowned figurative painter of the early 20th century, mentored him, and greatly influenced his artistic development.
