Fausto Melotti (1901–1986) was an Italian sculptor, ceramicist, and poet known for his lyrical approach to abstraction. Trained as both an engineer and artist, his early work in the 1930s embraced rationalist geometry, closely aligned with the Italian avant-garde and the Abstraction-Création group. After WWII, Melotti developed a unique sculptural language using thin brass rods, wire, and sheet metal—elegant, weightless constructions that read like visual poetry or spatial music. He also created a prolific body of ceramics and delicate terracotta “teatrini” (little theaters), fusing narrative, architecture, and allegory. Deeply influenced by mathematics, music, and metaphysics, Melotti’s work stands at the intersection of structure and spirit—measured, meditative, and profoundly modern.
