The Top 5 Art exhibitions to see in London this Summer
31 May 2026 • Tabish Khan
Bedsheets, surreal photography, pearls, smoking and pink twine.
Born in Italy in 1971, Paola Pivi is a renowned artist known for her diverse and enigmatic works. Her artistic practice blends the familiar with the unfamiliar, using identifiable objects transformed by scale, material, or color to challenge viewers’ perspectives. Animals play a central role in Pivi’s art, where they are endowed with human traits. Her polar bears, adorned with multicolored feathers, are seen practicing yoga, hanging from trapezes, and interacting in both life-sized and miniature forms.
Pivi’s extensive body of work spans sculpture, video, photography, performance, and installation, pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Her art features zebras in the Arctic, goldfish on airplanes, and in her 2012 Public Art Fund installation, a constantly rotating Piper Seneca airplane balanced on its wingtips. Paola Pivi’s unique approach captivates audiences and redefines the limits of artistic expression.
