RISO CLUB 100 Brings a Global Celebration of Risograph Design to Glasgow
27 January 2026 • Mark Westall
A rare retrospective celebrating the global language of risograph design opens in Glasgow this April.
Anthony Burrill (b. 1969, Littleborough, UK) is a graphic artist and designer best known for his bold typographic works that fuse optimism, urgency and graphic clarity. Working primarily with letterpress printing, wood type and large-scale graphic statements, he distils language into short, declarative phrases that read like rallying cries—direct, memorable and designed for public space.
Burrill’s practice is rooted in the physicality of making. Ink, pressure and repetition are central, giving his words a tactile presence that resists the slickness of digital design. His messages—often centred on creativity, perseverance and collective energy—are intentionally accessible, operating at the intersection of art, design and social communication.
Across posters, books, installations and collaborations, Burrill treats typography as both visual form and civic tool. By pairing clear language with strong material process, he demonstrates how words can cut through noise—carrying encouragement, conviction and cultural resonance with striking simplicity.
