The continuous beat of drum and rave music roots collide once again with popular culture motifs, the result is a visual celebration of all things acid! BSMT Space will be signing off 2022 with HARDCORE, a banger of an exhibition by Ryan Callanan aka RYCA.
A show of canvas, sculpture, prints and toys, RYCA puts to practice his academic training in printmaking, sign writing, 3-D design and industrial model making to deliver a repertoire of work continuing his exploration and celebration of all things Acid House.
The symbols incorporated in his art are inherently universal, masterfully blended, cross-referenced and recontextualised; their meaning is slightly changed yet strangely familiar. RYCA draws upon popular culture and is heavily influenced by 90’s Rap and Hip Hop, everyday colloquial phrases and symbols drawn from British culture.
HARDCORE’ offers something for everyone! With the opening night featuring a line-up of DJ’s and drinks generously sponsored by our partners at Duvel, what better way to sign off the year.

About the artist
Ryan Callanan aka RYCA is a British contemporary artist with a distinctive oeuvre that includes sign writing, 3D model-making and limited edition prints. In 2022, RYCA has branched out, creating his first ever painting series for his solo show at Enter Gallery, Playtime.
Through his work, RYCA has a unique knack for capturing the zeitgeist of contemporary culture. Whether via his prints, sculptures, or his enormously-popular recreations of traditional pub signage, Callanan’s work fuses the modern and the traditional, to create new and exciting takes on the art of nostalgia. rycastore.bigcartel.com
