Noemie is the final nominee we are featuring from The Catlin Art Prize below she answers some of FAD questions and you can tread her biog.

1 If you weren’t an artist, what else would you be?

I would probably be a paediatrician.

2 Name 3 of your favourite artists.
I don’t have favorites, they change all the time! But maybe two that are constant, the choreographer Sidi Larbi Sherkaoui and the writer Haruki Murakami.

3 What was the most intelligent thing that someone said or wrote about your work?
This is a very difficult question; I constantly exchange ideas with my peers and find all responses interesting as each of them opens up new perspectives. A while ago, a journalist talked about ‘heterotopias’ in relation to my work, which I thought was very relevant.

4 Do you care what your art costs? State your reasons!
Yes and no. Yes because it is how I make a living. And no because on a daily basis, most the people I talk about my work with don’t know and don’t care about how much it costs.

5 What are the three big ideas that you would like your work to express?
Alternate, Perspectives, and Fluidity.

6 How do you start the process of making work?
I take the train.

7. What’s next for you?
The continuation of the series ‘Haven her Body Was’ until a solo show in March next year. The first pieces will be shown at Catlin Art Prize next week.

“My practice has focused on the construction of spaces that enable new perspectives within the photographic framework. I make images that explore the invasion of man-made elements into organic landscapes. I’m continuing to work on a series called Les Amants – it still has strong potential for experiment and new discoveries.”

Justin Hammond: Cascade from Les Amants series is such a simple idea and yet it looks so powerful. Promenade is great too. I must have seen those images on a hundred blogs, they just really work. Over the past couple of years, they’ve also popped up in a number of group shows, so I was adamant that Noemie made something brand new for the Catlin Art Prize. She went to Dominica and constructed a set of images in the caves and rain forests of the island. I’ve yet to see the results in the flesh, but here’s ‘Warren’ – hot off the press.
