The Van Gogh Museum is a Dutch art museum dedicated to the works of Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries in the Museum Square in Amsterdam South, close to the Stedelijk Museum, the Rijksmuseum, and the Concertgebouw.
The Museum was opened in 1973 and consists of two buildings. Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld, a member of the progressive art movement De Stijl, designed the main structure. In 1999 the museum opened the new Exhibition Wing, designed by the Japanese architect Kurokawa Kisho. Both buildings have an open design that emphasizes geometrical forms and allows much natural light into the exhibition space.
