3 Interesting Art Exhibitions to visit this weekend.

1 Goto Jane Bustin’s Rehearsal at Copperfield Gallery on Saturday from open from 12-6pm

Bustin’s solo exhibition Rehearsal presents a series of paintings that take Modernist Russian ballet icon Vaslav Nijinsky (1890 – 1950) as a central reference. For all the apparent poise and fragility of ballet, every worthy composition is bold in its own right, underpinned by immense strength. Similarly her paintings balance the fragility of millimetre thin ceramic, fabric and pale tones with hard edges, metal and vivid colour.

2 Visit the first solo exhibition of Chinese artist Wang Guangle in Europe at PACE london
open Saturday from 10am – 6pm

One of the preeminent abstract painters of his generation in Beijing, Wang’s work is rooted in questions of painting’s temporality and the canvas as a vessel of labour and marker of time. The exhibition at Pace London will include a selection of recent paintings by the artist that evince the spirit and style of his work from the past decade. The exhibition also accounts for an unprecedented use of yellow in Wang’s work. Although he has no prescribed meaning for the colour, he embraces its various associations, from timidity and carefulness to a more Chinese connotation of the erotic.

Frieze London celebrates its 20th year this year and some things never change like Jonathan Jones’s review (Yawn) – But wow crazy busy and lots of great new galleries adding a refreshing energy – I think it’s great – there are a few booths that could do better but overall really great and such a great tonic from all the horrible news out there in the world.
