Werner Büttner and Henrique Pavão explore irony, memory, and material presence in a compelling dual exhibition at Lisbon’s Rialto6 Gallery.
In the main gallery, Reflections in a Pilfering Eye marks the first solo exhibition in Portugal by renowned German painter Werner Büttner. Curated by Andrew Renton, the show presents Büttner’s bold, ironic engagement with art history, where cultural references are reworked with wit and skepticism to challenge how we see and interpret images.
In Ghost Ranch, Henrique Pavão transforms the adjacent space into a layered, immersive landscape where viewers walk above a bull’s skeleton cast in terracotta beneath a glowing glass floor. Below, a dimly lit underworld resonates with haunting, distorted sound from guitar cabinets, creating a visceral encounter with memory, absence, and transformation.
Both exhibitions are on view through August 18th, 2025 Rialto6 Gallery
