Domo Baal is delighted to present Mhairi Vari’s second exhibition in the gallery. In the main gallery Vari will be exhibiting a single monumental site–specific work (maquette shown above ‘hub’ (working title) stainless steel sphere, twigs, coloured glue–gun sticks, 1.5×1.5×1.5m approx, 2011) developed during the Wheatley Fellowship at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design which she was awarded for 2010/2011.

Vari is interested in data visualisation and how information architecture is explored and communicated. Topographical and landscape references occur frequently in the visual and verbal languages used in this domain. There is a relative connection to Vari’s interest in the google–eyed view of the world and how this vast glut of information is used to watch us to one degree or another. Hub takes as it’s basis 2D models developed to describe connectivity of the worldwide web. It is made using twigs gathered from specific areas which become connected at every point of contact by a blob of coloured hot–melt glue.

Vari has recently exhibited Parched (2009) in Personal Use a group show curated by Rebecca Geldard at Cafe Gallery Projects, Bermondsey, London, she will also be exhibiting in ‘Binding Tide – double edge’ at the Blyth Gallery, Imperial College, London from 29nd November until 5th January 2012. Mhairi Vari completed her MA in Sculpture at The Royal Academy Schools in 2004, she was awarded the Royal Bristish Sculpture Society Bursary Award the same year. In winter 2006 her sculpture Relief was commissioned for The Economist Plaza as part of the Contemporary Art Society’s Economist Plaza Commission Series.
