Video: Jay Jay Burridge When superstars ruled the world at Lazarides Beverly Hills Art Opening Friday 13th August 2010

13th August 2010 – 26th August 2010
Lazarides Gallery is pleased to announce the final exhibition in our temporary Beverly Hills space. ‘When Superstars Ruled The World’ will be the first US exhibition for British artist Jay Jay Burridge and promises to be one of the most talked about shows of the summer.

Presenting with the Lazarides Gallery for the first time, Jay Jay Burridge has brought dinosaurs of enormous proportion back to life morphing them to fit our fashionable modern lives. The breathtaking scale of Jay Jay’s sculptures in contrast with the simplicity of the construction makes the re-invention of these classic beasts truly extraordinary and appeals to everyone who was once a child…

When Superstars Ruled the World will feature six huge hand-built dinosaurs made of industrial packing materials, manipulated into occasional activities such as sipping tea, playing instruments, surfing and break-dancing. Jay Jay’s commercial approach to creating art will make fashion inspired multiples available to collectors of all stripes…especially those who get a kick out of standing in line to collect the latest sneaker release.

Antony Micallef takes a good look at himself

Antony Micallef‘s visceral paintings loom from the walls of Lazarides gallery’s central London space, large canvases exploding with a riot of colour and deranged brushstrokes. Titled ‘Self’, this suite of paintings are an ironic comment on the social media-saturated contemporary culture that places so much emphasis on the cult of celebrity and the modern-day autograph: the ‘Selfie’.
