Thomas Houseago (b. 1972, Leeds, UK) is a British sculptor known for large-scale figurative sculptures that combine raw materiality with references to classical and modern art. Thomas Houseago works primarily with plaster, bronze, wood and steel, creating works that emphasise structure, surface and the physical process of making.
Houseago’s sculptures often depict human figures, masks and heads, constructed from assembled parts and visible frameworks. His work draws on influences from ancient sculpture, Picasso and Giacometti, while maintaining a contemporary approach that foregrounds fragmentation and construction. Thomas Houseago’s use of exposed armatures and rough surfaces highlights the tension between solidity and vulnerability in the human form.
Houseago has exhibited internationally in major museums and galleries. His work is widely recognised within contemporary sculpture for its engagement with figuration, scale and the expressive potential of materials.
