Klaus Biesenbach is one of the most influential curators and museum directors working in contemporary art today. Renowned for championing experimental artistic practices and interdisciplinary programming, Biesenbach has played a pivotal role in shaping the international contemporary art landscape through exhibitions that bring together visual art, performance, architecture, music and film. Throughout his career, he has consistently supported artists whose work challenges conventional boundaries while expanding the role of museums as spaces for cultural dialogue and innovation.

Born in Germany, Biesenbach co-founded Kunst-Werke (KW) Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin and was instrumental in establishing the Berlin Biennale, helping position the city as a major centre for contemporary art following German reunification. He later held senior leadership positions at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and MoMA PS1 in New York, where he organised landmark exhibitions with artists including Marina Abramovi?, Pipilotti Rist, Björk and James Turrell. In 2022, he became Director of Berlin’s Neue Nationalgalerie, leading the museum’s programme following its major restoration.
