Danh Vo is a contemporary artist whose conceptually driven practice explores identity, migration, history and the enduring legacies of colonialism. Working across sculpture, installation, photography and found objects, Vo creates works that draw together personal biography with wider political and cultural narratives. By recontextualising historical artefacts, documents and everyday materials, he reveals the complex ways in which history is constructed, inherited and continually reinterpreted.
Born in Vietnam in 1975, Vo emigrated with his family as a child following the end of the Vietnam War, an experience that continues to inform his practice. His work frequently examines the intersections of East and West, faith, family and national identity, using fragments of objects, letters and architectural elements to tell stories that move between the personal and the geopolitical. Rather than presenting history as fixed, Vo invites viewers to uncover layered narratives through carefully assembled installations that balance conceptual rigour with emotional resonance.
Vo has exhibited extensively at leading museums, biennials and galleries worldwide, including representing Denmark at the Venice Biennale and receiving the Hugo Boss Prize in 2012. Through his poetic and deeply researched practice, Danh Vo has become one of the most influential artists of his generation, creating works that challenge conventional ideas of authorship, cultural heritage and belonging while offering new perspectives on the interconnected histories that shape the contemporary world.
