When Digital Art Goes Physical: Inside HALLEN 07

4 digital art presentations at HALLEN 07 create an unexpected conversation around software, NFTs, Web3 & what happens when digital art enters physical space.
Anna Ridler (b. 1985, London, UK) works at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data and visual culture, using technology as both medium and subject. Her practice centres on the making of datasets—often painstakingly hand-labelled—which she treats as acts of care, authorship and bias rather than neutral raw material. Through video, installation and machine-learning systems, she exposes how meaning, power and labour are embedded in data-driven processes.
Ridler’s works frequently draw on historical and cultural imagery—tulips, archives, domestic scenes—training algorithms on deliberately limited or subjective datasets to reveal how machine vision reflects human values and distortions. The resulting images are often fragile, unstable and poetic, resisting the promise of technological mastery in favour of uncertainty and slippage.
By slowing down and humanising computational systems, Ridler reframes AI as a space of interpretation rather than efficiency. Her work invites viewers to consider how knowledge is produced, how images learn to see, and where responsibility lies in an era increasingly shaped by automated decision-making.
