A New York art dealer has been charged with stealing $88m (£60.7m) from art owners and investors,
Lawrence Salander was charged on 100 counts including theft, scheming to defraud and forgery.
He was arrested at his home in New York on Thursday morning.
A judge had halted sales at the financially troubled gallery in 2007 after it was accused of stealing artworks and money from clients.
In October 2007, John Crawford – a son of the abstract painter Ralston Crawford, said he went to the authorities because at least a dozen paintings and photographs loaned to the gallery were missing.
He estimated that they were worth between $1.2m (£828,000) and $1.5m (£1.03m).
The gallery had advertised works by artists ranging from John Constable to Robert De Niro Sr, the Oscar-winning actor’s father.
