Contemporary dance company Igor x Moreno bring the premiere of their brand-new dance show BEAT and A Room For All Our Tomorrows back to London.

This week London-based artists, performers and contemporary dance company Igor x Moreno will premiere in London their brand-new work BEAT celebrating the 50th Anniversary of The Place where Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas are Associates, and originally trained together and started collaborating over 10 years ago. Created in collaboration with Italian dancer Margherita Elliot and celebrated London DJ Martha, BEAT is a solo, psychedelic show made for theatre and non-theatre spaces. To coincide with this, performances of their internationally renowned works will also be staged at The Place, with A Room For All Our Tomorrows.

Igor x Moreno’s work is characterised by an interest in the moving body and the immediacy of action as a vehicle for meaning, ideas and desires. Together with a team of collaborators (DJs, dancers, lighting designers) each of their works engage with aspects of how to connect with people in the moment, creating sensory experiences through sound, light, movement and smell, crossing boundaries between artforms. Their work tours internationally and they have a second base in S’ALA spazio per artist*, an artist residency space in Sardinia.

Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas said:

“We are excited to be returning to The Place with two brand new artworks. It is a special thing to be collaborating with so many talented artists, designers, performers, musicians and DJs across our works during this very exciting time for our company.”

Their new work BEAT started from questioning what it means to be part of a generation that was brought up with the promise of endless possibilities in this part of the world. With one DJ (Martha Pazienti Caidan), one dancer (Margherita Elliot) and one lighting designer (Seth Rook Williams), the piece engages with the idea of the multiple identities and personalities that we all possess becoming a celebration of the fatigue, pain and uncertainty of deciding, moment by moment, who we are. BEAT is the first work Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas will be directing only, without performing themselves.

The Place will re-stage A Room For All Our Tomorrows. This explores the secret lives we all possess when we are close to others. Focusing on the mundane moments of life when harmony abandons us, leaving us with the desire to scream. It is a performance and place to imagine how things might be other than the way they are.

Eddie Nixon, Artistic Director of The Place said:

“BEAT is another chapter in the creative journey of Igor x Moreno. Another chapter that we’re really happy to have helped them write after almost a decade of supporting them. I’ve no doubt they’ll once again find a way of picking apart the certainties we think we’re all sitting on. That’s what they do so well. It’s why I am also very happy to have Room For All Our Tomorrow’s back at The Place. The show reminds me of a kind of messed up IKEA catalogue. A fracturing of domestic bliss and a suggestion of untidy beauty. It’s exceptional”

Igor x Moreno will also be delivering an international festival in Sardinia at the end of November, featuring many UK and Italian companies, and are venturing into book publishing later in the year.

About The Artists
Igor Urzelai (1983, San Sebastian) and Moreno Solinas (1987, Sardinia). Since forming in 2012, the works have toured extensively across the globe, and have been met by public and critical acclaim. The company has been nominated for awards such as the Total Theatre Award for Dance and the National Dance Awards, as well as being promoted in numerous international dance platforms including Aerowaves, National Italian Dance Platform and the British Council Showcase.
Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas are two London-based artists making and presenting dance performances across Europe and internationally. They first met in 2006; later they trained together at the London Contemporary Dance School (The Place) where they started collaborating. Igor and Moreno collaborate since 2007, co-founding BLOOM! dance collective in 2009 and their own company in 2012. They are currently both associated artists of The Place (London) and TIR danza (Italy). Igor and Moreno make work about people and what makes us such special animals. Their work is characterised by their interest in the moving body and the immediacy of action as a vehicle for meaning, ideas and desires. Igor and Moreno want to reclaim the role of the theatre as a place for assembly whilst exploring the cathartic properties of live performance. Across all their works they have always tried to create a frame to share their views without dictating a single reading, instead creating space for reflection for the viewer.
