A new large-scale performance work blending contemporary dance, video art and immersive installation will premiere in Downtown Los Angeles this June.
Created by Eno Freedman Brodman, Synoptico unfolds across four chapters, with performers moving atop a monumental floor projection that shifts and transforms in real time beneath them. Combining choreography, cinematic imagery and immersive staging, the work explores how collective attention is shaped in an increasingly media-saturated world.
The projected environments draw on social media feeds, breaking news cycles, childhood imagination and mortality, creating a constantly evolving landscape through which the dancers navigate. As the performance progresses, the floor projection becomes a shared space of memory, distraction, connection and belonging.
Blending contemporary dance with moments of satire and social observation, Synoptico examines the emotional and psychological effects of digital culture while asking what it means to seek genuine connection amid the constant demands of online life.
The work continues Freedman Brodman’s ongoing interest in immersive performance experiences that combine humour, technology and cultural critique. Supporting performers include Judson Emery, Shu Kinouchi, Brian Golden, and Neaz Kohani.
Presented across two nights in June, each performance will conclude with an after-party featuring live house and disco DJ sets, extending the work’s exploration of collective experience beyond the stage.
