About Freedom Not Genius
Freedom Not Genius Works from the Damien Hirst’s Murderme Collection is a book to accompany the exhibition at Pinacoteca Giovanni e Marella Agnelli, Turin.

Hirst began his collection in the late 1980s by exchanging his own works with those of his contemporaries and artist friends. The collection has grown to include international artists of earlier generations including Francis Bacon, Richard Hamilton and Kurt Schwitters. Two themes reoccur in this collection, memento mori and the animal kingdom.

Independent curator, author, and art advisor Elena Genua contributes an essay on the scope and nature of the collection, as well as a penetrating interview with Damien Hirst. Another essay by Mario Codognato (writer and curator at Blain Southern) explores Hirst’s role as artist/ collector and the influence he continues to have on his contemporaries and younger emerging artists.

The book is available at www.othercriteria.com priced at £65
