Returning from 4th–14th June 2026, Hackney Art Week transforms one of London’s most vibrant creative boroughs into a ten-day celebration of contemporary art, performance, music, food and community. Founded by Hackney residents Lisa Baker and Anna McHugh, the festival brings together more than 130 artists and creatives across 60 venues, spanning Dalston, Clapton, London Fields, De Beauvoir, Stoke Newington, Haggerston and Hackney Wick.
Far from a conventional art fair or gallery-led event, Hackney Art Week unfolds through a network of exhibitions, workshops, performances, open studios, talks and interventions that emerge across cafés, pubs, bakeries, record shops, public spaces and artist-run venues. The festival aims to create new opportunities for artists while strengthening connections between creative communities and local audiences.

Among the highlights is the festival’s opening celebration at the iconic Rose Lipman Building in De Beauvoir. The Brutalist landmark will host a programme of female-led artists, curators and photographers, including works by photographer Amelia Troubridge, artist Katie King, Thelma Speirs and CA Halpin, alongside performances by experimental collective EXPORT IMPORT.
At The Old Bath House, curator Mei Hui Liu presents an Asian art and food programme through ESEACC, combining exhibitions, film screenings, a curated market and dumpling pop-ups. Featured artists include Jun Jun, Bee Dwo Lin, Kelly Kiwi, Berlinda Chen and Ivy Mei.
Community participation sits at the heart of the programme. A Place at the Table, led by artist Henny Beaumont and ceramicist Brigit Connolly, brings together local residents and young people with learning disabilities through collaborative ceramics workshops and a public market. Meanwhile, novelist Rosie Storey leads The Art of Noticing, a writing workshop encouraging participants to slow down and engage more attentively with the world around them.
Public space also plays a central role. Multidisciplinary artist Claudi Panaite will transform Wilton Way with a large-scale outdoor projection, while Holly-Anne Buck’s Collagism™ Art Hunt turns London Fields into a borough-wide treasure hunt, with artworks appearing in bakeries, cinemas and unexpected corners of the neighbourhood.
Photography features prominently throughout the programme. National Portrait Gallery Portrait Award nominee Tara Darby debuts The White Cage, a powerful photographic installation centred on one of Hackney’s last remaining gang-neutral football spaces. Elsewhere, GG the Illustrator presents works documenting Hackney’s council estates and working-class communities as they navigate rapid urban change.
Music and performance are woven throughout the festival. Composer and producer Gabriel Prokofiev will present live performances at Café OTO, while Strongroom hosts events exploring the legacy of artist Jamie Reid, featuring Stephen Ellcock and John Marchant from the Jamie Reid Archive.
Other highlights include PINK CHAOS, a group exhibition at the newly opened Prokofiev Studio featuring Andrew Logan, Roxana Halls, Sue Dray, Pandemonia and Babak Ganjei; Jeanne Gourlaouen’s surreal installation The Sandwich Walk; Jennifer Forward-Hayter’s People of Hackney portrait project; and a queer art takeover at The Queen Adelaide exploring dyke identity, trans rights and community visibility.
With exhibitions, markets, open studios, workshops and performances taking place across the borough, Hackney Art Week continues to establish itself as one of London’s most distinctive grassroots cultural festivals, celebrating the artists, communities and spaces that make Hackney one of the city’s most influential creative hubs.
