About Solargraphs & Robert Charles Mann
Solargraphs is a celestial symphony by photo artist and musical composer Robert Charles Mann—known for his work on Ad Astra (Grammy nominee Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media). Rooted in craftsmanship and a dreamlike sense of time, this artist’s book offers a contemplative counterpoint to today’s fast-paced, automated world. Robert possesses a singular perspective: over several years, he placed handmade pinhole cameras across the storied Miraval estate, recording the sun’s journey from solstice to solstice. Through traditional printing methods that combine precious metals with modern archival pigments, he renders the cosmos in luminous arcs of light, inviting us to witness time itself. The result is a mesmerizing visual meditation on temporality, space, and the celestial.
A master printer before becoming a photographer in his own right, Robert quickly gained recognition in Los Angeles for the exceptional quality of his work, collaborating with leading fashion and film photographers the 1980s and 1990s, including Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh, and Sheila Metzner. Solargraphs is his first book. Introduced by Brad Pitt, the steward of Château Miraval, this curated volume presents fifty exceptional images that bear witness to the silent, continuous movement of time and light. MORE
