Gathering has announced the co-representation of Stefan Brüggemann in Germany in collaboration with Hauser & Wirth.
Marking the occassion Gathering will present Stefan Brüggemann’s second exhibition with the gallery, SPEED, opening 5th September at Gathering Cologne.
Brüggemann will situate Untitled (Faith) at the centre of the gallery’s interior. At two metres long, fifty centimetres high and carved from Italian marble, the sculpture’s minimalist, bench-like form subtly echoes a cross laid flat, merging function with symbolism to invite reflection on the sacred within the everyday. Black and red spray paint and stencilled vinyl lettering inject the work with fragmented text, interrupting the clean geometry and introducing a poetic tension between gesture and structure, ephemerality and solidity.
SPEED is a cacophony of interdisciplinary elements that elicit both the monumental and the intimate. Together, the components of the show deepen the artist’s longstanding investigation into language, representation and context, while responding directly to the material and conceptual possibilities of the gallery. The exhibition is accompanied by a commissioned text by Udo Kittelmann, curator and former Director of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

About the artist
Born in 1975, Stefan Brüggemann is a Mexican contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice merges conceptual art, language, and text. His work interrogates societal norms while probing the pervasive influence of mass media and consumer culture.
Working across painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and video, Brüggemann is known for a minimalist yet striking visual language. Bold typography, neon, and high-contrast colors serve as his tools for delivering sharp, precise messages.
His work has been presented internationally at major institutions including Tate Modern, London; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and Kunsthaus Zürich, earning him recognition as a leading voice in conceptual art.
He lives and works between Mexico City, London, and Ibiza.
