Inuagural Islington Gallery Weekend opens this July.

For anyone who was overwhelmed by London Gallery Weekend the perfect alternative – The inuagural Islington Gallery Weekend has been announced, a borough wide event taking place across the weekend of July 12- 13th.

Throughout the weekend the participating galleries will be hosting a series of events in conjunction with their current exhibitions. Free for all to attend, it provides an opportunity todiscover and celebrate the diverse and exciting programmes situated throughout the borough and its growing community of galleries. The programme of specially scheduled events includes talks, workshops, exhibitions walkthroughs and more special events. In partnership with Islington Gallery Weekend, a number of local businesses will be providing special discounts and offers for visitor participation.

All participating galleries will be open Saturday (11-6*) and Sunday (12-4). For a detailed breakdown of the weekend schedule please see our events listings below.

SHOW: The Observatory 17 May – 15 September The Observatory is a celebration of Italian abstract artist Claudio del Sole alongside contemporary works by James Scott Brooks, Robert Good and D J Roberts.
EVENT: Saturday 12 July 4-5pm ‘Pause’: a cosmic cocktail hour with live piano by Ed Henderson, composer and artistic director of Bastard Assignments (‘one of the most exciting forces in contemporary music’ – Financial Times)

SHOW: Claudio Parmiggiani 28 May – 31 August The Estorick Collection presents the first ever institutional UK exhibition dedicated to pioneering contemporary Italian master Claudio Parmiggiani.
EVENT: Saturday 12 July 11am Join for a tour of the Claudio Parmiggiani exhibition (free with admission ticket)

SHOW: Rebecca Willing and Henry Gibbs A duo show of work exploring mark making as a process to explore the material, digital and expressive forms

SHOW: Curtains: Harriet Mena Hill 10 July – 2 August Since 2018 Hill has worked extensively with residents on the Aylesbury Estate in South East London researching the connection of memory and place in light of the pending demolition of the entire estate. The Aylesbury research has produced two distinct bodies of work – Soft Concrete and The Aylesbury Fragments.
EVENT: Saturday 12 July 11am-6pm and Sunday 13 July 12-4pm The gallery director will be present to discuss the works each day

Twilight Contemporary is excited to present Running Through London, a fleeting glimpse of London while on the move.

SHOW: Natural Frequencies 18 June – 20 July Tracy Hill’s Natural Frequencies explores unseen energies of the earth through installations and paper works, inviting quiet observation of our urban environment.
EVENT: Saturday 12 July 2-3pm Tracy will talk through her unique fieldwork-based process, her printmaking studio, the energy beneath the ground, and more.
