Artist Bruce Asbestos unveils Mega Bunny + Friends his new public installation.

Artist Bruce Asbestos has unveiled his new public installation Mega Bunny + Friends at this year’s SPILL Festival in Ipswich.  The three giant inflatable animal sculptures are bringing pop art to Cornhill in the town centre until 29th October.

Mega BunnyEgg Cat, and Octopus bring a joyful spirit and colourful playfulness to the artist’s celebration of friendship.  With influences ranging from the smiley face ideogram to popular cartoon characters and Japanese Kids TV, Asbestos’ sculptures feel both unique yet strangely familiar.

The work draws inspiration from the global fascination with Blue Zones, the areas in the world where people live longest.  Asbestos created Mega Bunny + Friends to celebrate friendship and its benefits to our physical and mental health.

The work is inspired by the idea that great friends and community can extend life. It’s rare to see groups of friends depicted in contemporary art so I wanted to make a work that would be a monument to friendship and create a space where everyone is welcome.
