Modern Art to open new 1200 sq ft gallery in St James’s, Mayfair

Modern Art is to open a new gallery space in St James’s, Mayfair. Occupying a ground and lower ground floor space on Bury Street, London SW1 the gallery will open in Spring 2020 with an exhibition of work by Austrian painter Martha Jungwirth. Future exhibitions are planned with Richard Tuttle and Sanya Kantarovsky.

Modern Art’s new gallery will provide 1,200 sq ft of exhibition space, as well as a viewing room and offices. It will operate alongside the gallery’s existing locations on Vyner Street, E2, and Helmet Row, EC1.

“I have wanted to open a gallery on Bury Street for a number of years and have been waiting for the right space to become available. The size of the new gallery will provide a contrasting opportunity to programme exhibitions on a far more intimate scale than is possible in our two other spaces.
Bury Street has a very particular sensibility and is known for galleries of many different generations. The rich history of art dealing in St James’s has an intriguing combination of Old Master galleries, as well as antique dealers and antiquarian bookstores. Over the last several decades the area has also become a destination for leading contemporary galleries, making it an ideal situation for Modern Art to position itself within central London.”
