Alter your perceptions at a late-night art, modern trance and experimental electronics event celebrating Hayward Gallery’s new exhibition, Space Shifters.
Shygirl
Attend a special late opening of the major immersive exhibition, which features artworks by over 20 international artists that disrupt our sense of space, then party until 2am to forward-thinking sounds in Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer.
With an eclectic line-up, this Concrete Lates features electronic artist and sound composer Lorenzo Senni, GiGi FM’s techno-trap, cutting-edge club sounds with singer Shygirl, composer and musician Astrid Sonne, and dance beats from the fringes with Body Motion.
Lorenzo Senni founded the respected experimental label Presto!? and crafted some of the most unique dance music of the last decade. His latest release, ‘XAllegroX’ on Warp Records, showcases his sound reworked by Presto!? labelmates and friends, masked Detroit mainstay DJ Stingray and acclaimed German sound experimentalist Hecker. Originally released in September 2017, ‘XAllegroX / The Shape Of Trance To Come’ saw Lorenzo serve up two of his most distinctive deconstructions and augmentations of 1990s trance archetypes, championed by Aphex Twin, Dixon, Pete Tong and Pitchfork.
Shygirl is the London lyricist and DJ with a tone set clearly in the depths of the club. Co-founder of NUXXE record label with Sega Bodega and Coucou Chloe, her dual single ‘MSRYNVR’ was the label’s inaugural release in 2017. Shygirl finds sounds from all your favourite nights and gives them back to you doused in sarcasm and a dark-sided humour. It’s rude, but you want more.
GiGi FM creates an affinity between herself and the audience through her intimacy with rhythm. She displays a palette of sounds to match the spectrum present in her mind, weaving together techno, acid, trance, trap and a sprinkling of video game soundtracks. The Netil Radio resident will draw you in and throw you around the dancefloor.
Astrid Sonne, with a background in classical music, channels different perceptions of sensory and emotional states through open, melodic compositions. She uses repetition and renewal on tracks that feature everything from synthesizers to choir samples and viola sequences, with sources of inspiration as diverse as Danish choir traditions and noise soundscapes. Debut album Human Lineswas released via Escho in February 2018.
Body Motion is responsible for one of London’s most esoteric club nights. Guiding us through disparate sonic terrain, the NTS resident collective digs deep to offer nuanced selections from the maligned fringe of dance.
