Acne Studios has opened a new retail location in West Hollywood, its second L.A. location following its downtown L.A. opening in 2013. The space mimics that of an open plan gallery, taking over a pavilion-style single storey building with a two wall facade almost fully in glass.
A rough concrete floor lays the foundations of the 250m2 acne store which features two freestanding stainless steel rails that cut through the space whilst a 10m long stainless steel shelf covers the back wall. A corrugated ceiling and wall panels are coated in pale acid yellow.
Positioned on Melrose Avenue, a specially commissioned large-scale sculpture by artist Daniel Silver acts as the focal point of the store. abstract shapes of stern, blackened aluminium create the framework for silver’s fabric cut outs of double-faced wool cashmere, which hang draped over the structure at the centre of the boutique. Acne studios has collaborated with the artist on 100 limited edition signed t-shirts to celebrate the launch, featuring a print of Silver’s work and available exclusively at the new store. ?Two long term acne studios collaborators also contribute to the store including Max Lamb who has provided a custom made seating and display furniture, while Benoit Lalloz has created 85 of his round aluminium light fixtures which are integrated into the floating corrugated ceiling.
