Art14 London talks programme announced

Art14 London has announced a talks programme that will be staged during the Fair and will bring together participants from the Global Private Museum Summit, Art & the City, members of the International Advisory Board as well as independent art world experts. The talks will reflect Art14 London’s international scope and outreach with 180 galleries from 40 countries presenting modern and contemporary art from regions such as Asia, the Middle East and Africa, next to galleries from Europe and the US.

‘Museum Era: The Rise of Asia’, Friday 28th February 2014, 4pm
A talk examining the impact that private and public museums have on contemporary life in Asia. Speakers will include key figures from across the Asian continent:

Dr Oei Hong Djien (Indonesia), Owner of OHD Museum in Java
Wang Wei (China), Founder of the Long Museum in Shanghai
Budi Tek (China/Indonesia), Founder of the Yuz Museum in Shanghai
Sunhee Kim (Korea), Director of the Daegu Art Museum and former senior curator of Tokyo’s Mori Art Museum

‘Art & the City’, Saturday 1st March 2014, 2pm
A discussion examining place-making as a global concern, looking at cities from Washingon to Shanghai, from Rome to Daugavpils in Latvia where the Mark Rothko Art Center has recently opened. The talk will position art as an engine of urban regeneration. Participants will include:

Kate Rothko (USA), Daughter of the late painter Mark Rothko
Don and Mera Rubell (USA), Owners of the Rubell Family Collection in Miami
Dai Zhikang (China), Founder and Chairman of the Zendai Group
Giovanna Melandri (Italy), President of MAXXI, National Museum of the 21st Century Arts of Rome

’10 Things You Didn’t Know About…’, Friday, 28th February – Sunday, 2nd March 2014, from 12.30pm
A series of informal talks exploring contemporary art across the globe and offering the expertise of speakers who specialise in specific countries and mediums. The programme includes the following topics with more to be announced:

Indonesian Art – Dr Oei Hong Djien, Owner of OHD Museum in Java
Collecting Photography – Brett Rogers, Director, Photographer’s Gallery, London
Chinese Art – Philip Dodd, Chairman of Made in China UK and Chairman of Art14 London International Advisory Board
Collecting Editions – Iwona Blazwick, Director, Whitechapel Gallery, London
Collecting Middle Eastern Art – Ramin Salsali, Owner of Salsali Private Museum, Dubai
