16th November – 16th December 2012
French Riviera is to present Thomas Dozol’s first solo exhibition at the gallery.
Dozol’s practice begins with the photographic image, which he shoots on film. He then removes the background context and highlights the figure using geometric shapes and dayglo colours. Through his silkscreen techniques of repetition and slight offsetting of two layers, he creates a powerfully understated visual language. The resulting images present the body as an icon.
Thomas Dozol lives and works in New York, NY, USA. Recent solo exhibitions include I Like You Better with Static Noise, Jack Hanley Gallery, New York (2012), Works on Paper, Lamar Dodd School of Arts, Athens, GA (2011), and I’ll Be Your Mirror, Mais Soma, Sao Paulo (2010). Recent group exhibitions include The Dark Cube, Palais de Tokyo, Paris and Collection Particulière, French Riviera, London (both 2012).
Thomas Dozol – Côtes d’Azurs will be the tenth exhibition at French Riviera, a gallery founded by artists Samuel Levack and Jennifer Lewandowski in February 2011, as a platform for exhibiting emerging artists currently without representation in the UK.
