Asia’s first museum dedicated to the handbag opens on Thursday July 19th . Built by Seoul-based luxury bad producer Simone, the Simone Handbag museum is part of a new ten floor building called Bagstage which is in the shape of a top handle shopper.
They Say:
The collection has been acquired by exhibition-maker Judith Clark who has designed and curated the museum. The museum will give a dynamic overview of the history of western bags from the sixteenth century to the present and the historic tools associated with such a specialised art. Its design reflects recent museology and its fascination with archives, as well as study into mannequin design and innovation.
The museum has been commissioned by Simone Acc. Collection Ltd. The museum collection will take up two floors of the newly built edifice in central Seoul. Designed by local architects, UAD, the building will also host Simone’s new offices, and shops.
Simone will sell its own range of bags which will be launched Summer 2012. There will also be displays of leather samples, and design students will be able to buy discounted leather to realise their ideas. The whole project is the brainchild of Simone CEO Kenny Park, who believes that Simone should use its success to inspire and develop the next generation of creatives.
