Naco Gallery
At 50 square meters Naco Gallery is probably one of the smallest exhibition spaces in Shanghai. But don’t assume that its size has anything to do with its relevance. Naco Gallery is focused on promoting new art, design and creative talents; giving a voice to those specifically dealing with the massive issues of contemporary urban conditions.

A two part exhibit of Herman Mao’s photography opened Wednesday Dec. 7th 2011.
The “Philadelphia Years” chronicles the crumbling of urban territories where buildings fall apart and remain skeletons of deserted landscapes. “Treasure Island Wonderdreams” puts special emphasis on the soul of architecture projects and the nostalgia of an era: the 60’s in Taiwan.

Studio Box
Entering onto the local design scene is Shanghai’s newest and arguably most unique showroom spaces – Studio Box. Designed for Studio FH by Canadian architects Andrei Zerebecky and Lukasz Kos of Four O Nine; the Studio Box will feature the creations of both local and international design talent starting in 2012 via its “designer-in-a-box” series.

From now until mid-February Studio Box will feature several FOUR O NINE pieces recently exhibited at 100% Design Shanghai. The pieces have a wide range of inspirations, from local Chinese iconography, to fashion, to environmental sustainability – seamlessly mixing poetic and the prosaic sensibilities.

James Cohan Gallery
Hidden away in an old lane of the French concession, this amazing 1930s art deco house once occupied by the Chinese military (checked the painted Maoist slogan above the door) offer us more than a nice journey. In the past years, James Cohan has worked on a number of contemporary art exhibitions in New York and trying to find a resonance with the gallery that he opened in 2008 in Shanghai.
