Here’s another weekend recommendation, Apple Cart festival is taking place tomorrow in a (hopefully) sunny corner of East London.
A festival which is as much about the food, the comedy and the cabaret acts as it is about the music, FAD will be checking out the interactive art happenings, including the Art Car Boot Sale which has moved for one day only from its Brick Lane home. The Art Car Boot sale will be parking up their classic cars in the leafy expanse of Victoria Park touting their arty wares from their boot. At the Art Clinic Oliver Guy Watkins and his team will turn anything brought to them, a beer can, a shoe, a twig into art.
Elsewhere there’s Carie Reichardt’s anti Royal Wedding china ware, Carl Hopgood’s gold ceramic beer cans, Scrawl Collective’s street (and body) art, Pretty Taxing’s limited edition tax disc holders from the likes of Peter Blake and Gavin Turk and Holly Freeman’s A Float will be selling ‘pints of art’. There will also be all manner of artist led activities: play boules in a china shop, find out what the future may bring from My Big Fat Gypsy Fortune Teller or watch the salacious Spankatron, a performance piece specially commissioned for Dita von Teese.
Ever a fan of a chap in corduroys Rachel FAD can’t wait for some Marcus Brigstock who will be gracing the comedy stage the other (impressive) comedy highlights include Jon Richardson and Tim Minchin.
And, if that wasn’t all enough, there’s still the music line up. Victoria Park will be swaying to the dulcet mercury winning tones of Badly Drawn Boy, the charm of the Magic Numbers, and the string driven pop loveliness of the ever impressive Patrick Wolf. Other highlights included the brilliant Steve Mason (ex. Beta Band), St Etienne and Baleric Folk Orchestra.
