London remains the centre of the Russian and Oriental art markets.
The Russian, Eastern and Oriental Fine Art Fair returns to London’s Mayfair in June with an expanded exhibitor line-up and a spectacular array of fine art spanning the last 1000 years. Building on the success of its inaugural year, work from Iran, India, China, Korea and Vietnam will be on display for the first time, with specialist galleries showing a stunning mix of traditional and modern contemporary fine art from these regions.

Visitors will be able to see a broad spectrum of work from 50 UK and international galleries including: ancient Russian icons; Oriental ceramics, sculpture and carvings; Persian textiles and carpets; Objets d’art and a wide variety of paintings from 19th Century through to Contemporary with prices for works ranging from £300 to £3million.

The recent BRIC sale has shown that collectors’ interest in art from these territories remains robust. Given London’s central position at the heart of the Russian and Chinese art market, as well as more dealers in oriental art in London than in Europe and US combined, the Fair is ideally located.

“London not only has a burgeoning local collector base but is a magnet for collectors flying in from Moscow and Kiev.” Gareth Harris, Financial Times, 2009

Sphinx Fine Art will be bringing an important watercolour tableau of the final scene of ‘The Firebird’ by Russian avant-garde artist Natalia Goncharova. The most expensive female artist in the world, her work continues to set records. In February her painting Espagnole sold for £6.4m at auction, beating the previous record of £5.5m set for her

Husain, one of the most significant Indian artists of his generation. Husain forged a new vocabulary in Indian art with a brilliant synthesis of tradition and modernity. He continues to produce colourful and provocative canvases, incorporating themes from Indian religion, history and culture.

Along with highly collectible rare netsuke and okimono pieces, leading London specialists in Oriental antiques Sydney Moss will show an important Japanese wood sculpture of Bishamon dating from the 18th Century Edo Period. Forming part of a spectacular foyer exhibition, the sculpture represents 1000 years of craftsmanship from across the Eastern world.

Jacques Monasch Gallery will be displaying 20th Century and Soviet Realist artists including ‘The Visit of Nikita Kruschev to the Miners of Donetsk’ by Y.S. Komendant. An historical masterpiece of the highest quality, the painting was commissioned for one of the State museums of the former Soviet Union. However, the downfall of Kruschev delayed the purchase and it remained in the studio of the painter for decades until discovered by Jacques Monasch.

West-Eleven gallery will showcase the work of Kazakhstan’s leading contemporary artist, Annya Sand, whose abstract paintings can be found in the A. Kasteev State Museum of Arts (National Museum of Kazakhstan) and in the G. Aytiev Kyrgyz National Museum.

Launched by Annya Sand and new to the Fair for 2010 are EASTERN ART PRIZES. These will be major art prizes for emerging artists from Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. They will be presented during the Fair by Andrew Graham Dixon and HRH Prince Michael of Kent. An exhibition of the 30 finalists will be
held during the Fair and also at Asia House in March 2011.

My art is very personal to me and for very long time I refused to sell it. To me – its my creation, almost like my child; I adore it, I put all my love, time, work and energy into it so selling it was never easy.
