The Project:
Hosted by London Miles Gallery this community installation is to help build a platform for emerging contemporary artist living in London. The project aims to bring together emerging artists in a project that builds awareness about our community, contemporary art and the importance of recycling in our generation.
The installation will be built and constructed by more than 1000 boxes, all hand painted by artists. The project is open to any artist or inspiring artist from the new generation of contemporary art. This is a great opportunity for your artwork to be seen by gallery curators, directors, art press and buyers.
The installation will be built inside the atrium area of Westbourne Studios. There will be an opening reception to celebrate the completed structure alongside an exhibition featuring the work of 45 recognized international artists. The opening reception will take place at Westbourne Studios ( 242 Acklam Road, London, W10 5JJ) on Friday June 11rd, 2010 from 7pm to 11pm and is open free to the public. Exhibition on show until July 4th, 2010.
Project Guidelines:
1. One box per person. You can pick up a used box from your local Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s, or other food/ Retail store. Old shipping boxes, or moving boxes will work fine.
2.Size of Box: Please select a square or cube shaped box (No rectangle, or flat pizza boxes please!) Min. size of the box is 8 inch deep by 10 inch wide, Maximum size is 30 inches by 30 inches. You box can be any box between those size limitations.
3. Paint your box on all sides! Please paint your box on all sides and choose a color theme. Choose one main colour and use different shades of that one colour. For example, If you choose red your box can include the colours red, pink or purple. You can use any medium or technique you wish.
4. Theme of your box: Please create a box themed by the title “The Next Generation” You are free to create your art piece in any way you feel is connected to that title.
Deadline: May 30th, 2010.
You can drop off your box to London Miles Gallery, or arrange a collection day at your local university, school or programe. Please include along with your painted box: The title of your box, your name and the medium you used.
