Discover the dynamic artistic journey of Tiona Nekkia McClodden, a visionary born in 1981 and hailing from the vibrant landscapes of Blytheville, Arkansas, and Greenville, South Carolina. Currently, McClodden thrives in the creative hub of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With a rich academic background in Film and Psychology from Clark Atlanta University, she honed her craft through an immersive apprenticeship with Larry Steele at Spelman College’s Educational Media Center in Atlanta.
McClodden’s impactful body of work has garnered international acclaim, gracing esteemed institutions such as Kunsthalle Basel, Phoenix Art Museum, El Museo del Barrio, MoMA, ICA Los Angeles, and many more. Notable showcases include her participation in Prospect 5 in New Orleans and exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the New Museum in New York.
Recognized for her exceptional talent, McClodden has been the recipient of prestigious grants and fellowships, including the esteemed Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant and the Princeton Arts Fellowship. Her accolades also include the Bucksbaum Award from the Whitney Museum of American Art, a Guggenheim Fellowship in Fine Arts, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award, and the Pew Fellowship.
Beyond her captivating visual works, McClodden’s literary prowess shines through her contributions to platforms like Triple Canopy, Artforum, Cultured Magazine, and ART 21 Magazine. In 2020, she furthered her impact by founding Conceptual Fade, a groundbreaking project gallery and library dedicated to elevating Black art and conceptual practice.
